Kindergartners heard a story called The Dot by Peter Reynolds. The story is about a little girl named Vashti who learned that a work of art can start with just a mark. The whole story can be seen here (YouTube video).
After the story, we discussed Vashti's artwork.
After the story, we discussed Vashti's artwork.
The students were then tasked to start their own masterpiece with a dot. We focused on tracing, cutting, and pasting over two class periods.
The third class period, we focused on adding details using markers to create big dots and careful little dots.
The Kinders Dot art can now be seen in the hallway outside of the art room. It is truly amazing to see all the unique pieces of art that start with just a traced dot.
